About Dr. Avirat Vaishnav
Graduated from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College in India and finished my Master’s degree in Surgery from the premier Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India.
After completing my General Surgery training, I went to the UK to complete my Paediatric Surgery training at the Sheffield Children's’ Hospital.
I arrived into Oman in October 1986, to continue developing the department which was then 1 year old and a one Consultant department.
I have spent the last 39 years in Oman practising Paediatric surgery and Paediatric Urology at the Royal hospital, Muscat.
During that time, I looked after newborn babies and children with various surgical problems, and over a period of time developed an interest in Paediatric Urology and also started a Spina bifida clinic looking after their Urological issues.
The Paediatric surgery department at the Royal hospital now is a 5 Consultant service with residents.
I have an interest in teaching as well and fortunately was able to share my knowledge with generations of Omani residents.
